1)  Stupid Cardio-Are you still hanging all over the Stairmaster with your arms “rolled in” for 45? 60? minutes or more?  Even Shape magazine doesn’t still promote that kind of cardio. In case you haven’t noticed “we” don’t do cardio like that anymore. It’s a waste of time and may even be detrimental to your   fitness efforts (it raises stress hormones and breaks down muscle.) Moderate intensity, long-duration cardio is a thing of the past.  Frequent, short bursts of very high intensity cardio done either as a rest-based workout or, integrated with your resistance workout is the only way to go.  It builds muscle, boosts immune function, and burns more calories at rest.

Every day there is a new fitness or diet trend popping up. From the Atkins Diet and juice cleanses to P90X and CrossFit, keeping up with the latest fitness trends can be down right exhausting. So today, the girls at Flirty Girl Fitness have shared a few fitness trends that are worth keeping your eye on for 2013. If you’re looking to spice up your workouts or try something new to improve your fitness life, check out these ideas.

5 Fitness Trends for 2013

1. H.I.I.T. Less is more with H.I.I.T. (high intensity interval training) classes. This convenient workout is highly effective and gets you in shape quickly by burning up to five times more calories AFTER your exercise is over! These workouts burn a high level of calories and fat, by combining short durations of high intensity exercises with a bout of rest following them, and continuing the cycle for the duration of the workout. The varied exercises and intervals are extremely challenging during the workout, but the results are even more rewarding. 

2. Thorne Performance SupplementsGone are the days where we’ll buy just any supplement that a model or celebrity tries to sell to us. 5. Hot Yoga. Hot yoga has become extremely popular in recent years, and don’t expect this trend to fade. With a range of classes including Bikram’s structured 90 minute and 26 postures or vinyasa yoga’s dynamic flow, there’s a hot yoga class for everyone. Prepare to get steamy in a heated room with high humidity levels for the ultimate sweat. Hot yoga works specific muscle groups and leaves yogis feeling cleansed and refreshed.

Getting in shape is a very simple thing. You make a plan and then you stick to it until you see results. The problem is knowing what you exactly you should be doing. I’m here to take care of all of that for you. I’ll tell you what exercises you should be doing, How many reps, sets, and what weight. I’ll tell you what days to workout and for how long. Over the years many of you have expressed interest in online personal training. So I have talked to our resident personal trainer and fitness expert Robert about providing his personal training services online to our followers. He is a certified personal trainer with a degree in Kinesiology. He has taken the time to develop a system of online personal training where he can provide the same level of attention and help that he provides in his in person training. If you are interested in personal training and one on one help achieving your goals then check out our page on our personal training program here. None of the training is prefabricated and each training program is tailored directly to your needs. Coach Robert can work with the equipment you have available to you to prepare you for whatever you want to accomplish. Train the way you feel comfortable training with somebody that understands you.
