There are a lot of Gatorade commercials out there lately saying to the effect that drinking water during exercise is far inferior to drinking Gatorade. For most people who exercise this is both false and possibly detrimental to the progress they are trying to make. Especially in terms of weight loss. Now this is in no means ment to put Gatorade on blast. There are certain situations when Gatorade is an awesome product (especially since they switched their sugar source from High Fructose Corn Syrup to a Sucrose-Dextrose mix which is absorbed much faster into the blood stream and is much more optimal for replenishing of blood glucose levels). But the fact remains that the only people who are going to need the type of electrolyte and glucose supplementation are those people who are exercising for extended periods of time. I’m talking about athletes playing full games like soccer, football, basketball. Or people training for hours at a time or running long distance events. For those people Gatorade is awesome way to prevent fatigue and allow them to perform much longer than they would have would have drinking water alone. But for the general population that is working out for maybe an hour. Gatorade is totally unnecessary and if you are trying to lose weight might actually do more harm than the good you did at the gym. The simple truth of the matter is if you aren’t working out at an intense level for a long period of time you don’t need it. Water will work just fine for keeping you hydrated and cool during your workouts.

Story: I refused Gatorade when I was drunk and dehydrated. That tells you how bad I think this drink is for you.
