Coconut Banana Ice Cream Bars (dairy-free, gluten-free, nut-free)

The other morning I slept in and came downstairs to see my oldest daughter, Lily, put a pan of something into the freezer. I asked her what she made and she responded: “frozen coconut banana cream bars.” We all enjoyed them as a treat throughout the day. Then later I saw her on the computer (which rarely ever happens) and asked her what she was doing. “Oh, I’m just typing up a recipe for a blog post” she responded. So what you see written below, including all of the photos, is by my 11-year daughter.

Simple Slow-Cooked Chicken Curry

The days are getting shorter, colder, and busier! Having simple, nourishing meals ready to eat when you get home from work or school is so important. Now that the weather has changed, I’ve been using my slow cooker more often. This chicken curry recipe is so simple that I almost didn’t post it! I’ve made it a number of times in the last few weeks. Too many actually, because now my children are starting to complain!

Dandelion Root Chai Tea

I don’t know about you but I love warm spicy drinks like chai tea. I prefer to make my own because coffee shop chai is usually far too sweet for me. I’ve been working on perfecting a chai tea recipe for some time now. Yesterday I was inspired to add dandelion root to my recipe after reading this article on the amazing cancer-fighting effects from consuming dandelion root extract.

If I can share one piece of information with the world it would be this one thing. In order to change the world you need to know the rules to the world. Most people see things that are messed up, but go on with their daily lives doing nothing, because they don’t know anything they can do about it. Well I’m here to share three concepts which show you that you have every bit of power you need to change the world.

The single most important controlling factor in a capitalist society is money. Money at the end of the day decides everything. So in some messed up way your pocketbook speaks louder than your voice. When you spend money you are literally endorcing whatever you are buying. This also extends to where you place your attention, the tv shows you watch, the websites you visit, the youtube videos you watch. Nearly every action has a monitary effect that counts as a vote for whatever you just watched, bought, or visited.

Don’t believe me? Say the son of a famous actor puts out a song that objectifies women and encourages rape. When you buy that song, watch it on mtv, listen to it on the radio, and visit the song on youtube. You are unknowningly saying. “Hey I think this is fine by me!” because you just payed the companies sharing that music money. Your tv, internet, and social media views turn into cold hard advertising cash.

In the end of the day for companies it doesn’t matter what you think about their product. If they make money, they will keep doing it. Even if there is a huge outcry about a particular song on mtv. If MTV is still making lots of money from all the people tuning in to watch their channel they have no incentive to change what they are doing.

But this brings us to our second important point.

The customer is always right

Imagine if instead of just complaining about that music video on MTV and still watching MTV. A million people suddenly stopped watching MTV all together because of that video, and those people all sent a short email to MTV telling them that as long as that video is playing they wont watch the channel. Beyond that what if those million people also made it known to any advertisers that if they purchase ad time on MTV you will not purchase their products or services (and then you don’t purchase their products and services). How long do you think MTV will keep that video playing? As fast as you can say ahhh helll nooo. Does MTV really give a shit about what songs they are playing? They only care about what songs bring in people to watch their channel. If something brings people in they will show it. If something keeps people away and stops them from making money they will stop it right away. Because the customer is always right and the customer is how they make MONEY.

This works in nearly every facet of our society.

Imagine a toy company makes sexualized and unrealistic dolls of women. They make those dolls that way because people spend money and buy them. If everybody stops buying all their products for their kids and refuses to purchase anything from that line or even company. If it hurts their bottom line they will make dolls in whatever shape or color you want. But here is the thing. You also have to support companies or organizations when they make the proper changes. When they make more realistic dolls you reward the company by choosing to purchase their products when you do buy.

You are both the stick and the carrot that controls society

You can punish by taking money away and you can reward and encourage good behavior by spending money.

If magazines show only pictures of photoshopped models on the covers and you want them to stop encouraging people to live up to unrealistic standards then don’t buy them and let them know that you wont until they stop photoshopping people. If nobody buys magazines that have photoshopped images and everybody buys magazines with unaltered images. How long do you think it will take for you to see magazines with big logos saying “100% real photos!” “Never photoshopped!”. Magazines and all products for that matter go where the money is.

If Ritz crackers thought that putting the cast from supernatural on the cover of the box would get you to buy it more then they would do it!

This works for things beyond the commercial world. Politicians get paid donations by influential people, companies, and interest groups. Those people and groups get their money from you in one way or another. If a person or group related to a brand or service funds a canidate or supports an issue that you are opposed to. Let them know that you will discontinue buying their product or service until they stop their support.

In a majority of cases most political support from influential people and companies is based on which political party will help them make the most money, rather than any actual stance on an issue.

If supporting a politician or issue causes them to lose a significant amount of money they will drop it like a hot potato.

The fact is in nearly every case you have the ability to play a small but significant part in changing your world.

Remember your purse is your weapon and your reward. You can administer justice by removing your funding and reward those who do it the right way or change their ways.
